Hello! Most people call me Mickey, a nickname my dad gave me as a kid. Although I'm not yet 60 years old, I'm getting closer to that milestone. I’d like to share some highlights of my journey to becoming a professional coach.
I wasn’t always sure that I wanted to become a physician. When I was 12, I had Hodgkin’s Disease, and the experience was traumatic. After that, I avoided doctors and hospitals and wasn't sure if I wanted to pursue medicine. However, I loved science and helping people, so I eventually decided to become an Infectious Disease specialist and focused on HIV prevention among adolescents as an NIH-funded researcher.
While I was a fellow/junior attending, I had two wonderful kids. My work was going well, and my kids were thriving, but my marriage wasn’t working. I got divorced, went through therapy, and gained self-awareness and perspective. I continued to work on HIV prevention and took advantage of leadership opportunities. Eventually, I became Chief of Medicine and then Chief of Quality.
During my transition into Hospital Administration, I worked with a coach for over a year, and it was a transformative experience. Coaching helped me learn new and better self-management skills that I’ve continued to develop. It also helped me become a better leader and enabled me to informally coach my colleagues. In the process, I discovered I love coaching, so I invested two years and became a Certified Executive and Life Coach!
If my life experiences and training sound like something you would benefit from, I am available for a limited number of one-on-one coaching engagements. Please reach out for a no-risk, no-commitment consultation!
